Oh, a delightful piece. I don't know these characters of yours, but your story made me like them. You made it easy to feel empathy for both the youthful, restless boys and with Melinda as she left her cutting board to listen in. 

Great opening phrase. "She could hear their voices through the open kitchen door..." One simply has to read on. And having read on, I can only wonder if they have room for Melinda's dinner.
