Bear with me. My first story on Omega Sector was a TNG based sequel to Piece of the Action. What I did there is a weak comparison to what I read here. A zinging read from start to end, I'm still not quite familiar with Rick Daniels but found him a brilliant character. Loved the dialogue in particular, half expected Vic Fontaine to pitch up someplace. The addition of these gangsters having their own Starfleet and finally, that of Saavik being present. What a story :)

Author's Response:

Aw, thank you! Rick is canon but he had pretty much zero depth and didn't even get a first name. I decided he'd be a womanizer, tortured with guilt, etc. He was mostly made from the ground up.

The bluesman and I had a blast writing this - the premise was his idea. :)

Thank you for reading, from both of us.

That was a wild romp that captured the flavor and feel of the original episode.  Only sticking points for me are who/what was the purpose of the space hippies at the beginning, and why the book written by Colonel Green didn't impact Iotian society?

I did like that the Iotians agreed to a peaceful solution, and that they finally came to realize they are an intelligent and gifted race in their own right; that they don't need to copy others to be successful, but can forge their own path.

I think Spock's line at the end of "Space Seed" works well here, too:  It would be interesting to return to Sigma Iota Two in a hundred years and see what crop sprang from the seed planted today.  Maybe Daniels and co. can look into it. ;-)

Author's Response: We tried to make the Iotians advance 200 years in about 20. I thought it was a neat concept to have the Iotians have starships and alien tech, but their style and culture and had not advanced...the Iotians were still in there comfort zone so to speak. This was a fun write and thanks for the reviews. Janet and I approached this as TWOK is to Space Seed.

Lots of good stuff in here - logical arguments to get the Iotians to change their way of thinking, a good explanation for Chicago's superior weapons, and some neat back and forth about life in the future and how much things have changed since 2267.

And now the only question is - will it work?

Author's Response:

... stay tuned!!

Oh my...this is about to get interesting. ;-)  The people from the TIC have no idea what they're in for - on any front.

Love the nods here to TOS canon, and am interested to see how the second book influenced Iotian culture.  Somehow I doubt it has anything to do with the hippies...;-)

And how on earth did the Iotians manage to reproduce a Constitution-class starship?  They are imitative, but sheesh!  Something tells me Kirk's not gonna like the answer.

Author's Response:

They are clever folks .... ;)

Oh wow, like that was totally bizarre, yanno?  I wonder what dem guys in the Temporal Commission are gonna do now?  Dey needs to pick a side, and if it ain't with us, den they'll be swimmin' with da fishes.

What a cool start - hippies meet gangsters.  Hold onto your butts - it's gonna be a wild ride. ;-)

Author's Response:

Oh, we had SUCH fun with this one. Andorians with afros! Mobsters demanding nonexistent money!!

Well, looks like Kirk has learned from his last mistake. Probably the worst thing he could have done last time was to leave the Iotians alone and unsupervised. That was just a recipe for disaster. This time they'll have some good folks help them out and ensure they don't get themselves into anymore hijinks.

And nice little easter egg Sheilagh left for Scotty. I'm sure he's going to appreciate the little touch. At least at first.

Great story revisiting one of the funniest people Trek has given us. And with just the right amount of humor and tongue-in-cheek to pay homage to the classic adventure. Well done.

Author's Response:

Thank you, on behalf of both of us. We had a blast writing it. :)

Well things are really heating up in this chapter.

This time the Iotians are not happy with just a few heaters. This time they want a whole fleet of ships. Kirk plays it cool at first, as he would, but Oxmyx is no fool and that ship of his clearly packs a punch. Which means this time Kirk-oh and crew don't even have the tactical advantage.

Good thing they have allies from the distant future.

But it turns out a bit of common sense is apparently all the Iotians needed this time around. And good thing to because I don't think another fight would have looked pretty.

Author's Response:

We wanted them to have a peaceful way out. In the original episode, they weren't mean, so we felt we needed to continue in that vein.

You gotta love Oxmyx and his crew of mobsters, bringing a bit of no-nonsense Chicago sensibilities to the 23rd century. I love the way you've captured their language here. That was among my favorite parts of the orginal episode. That and Fizbin of course.

Author's Response:

We just adored how they talked. Wise guys with phasers (excuse me, heaters). Gotta love that.

The Iotians are at it again. And this time it wasn't enough to model their society after the Chicago Mob. Now they built and entire Constitution class starship. Nothing can go wrong with that fabulous idea, right?

Will Daniel and his crack team arrive in time to avoid disaster? Only time will tell. Okay, enough puns.

Author's Response:

And time is running out!

Okay, enough with the temporal humor ;)

First of all, awesome cover.

Things are off to on interesting start with the future apparently going haywire. And of course that can mean only one things. Somebody is doing something very naughty in the past.

Let's see if this team can figure out a way to reign in the out of control Syndicate.

Author's Response:

The cover is by thebluesman - he rocks! :)

The humor here is so very... canon, for lack of a better word, yet slightly to the left of canon, if that makes any sense at all.

The mentions of Colonel Green are also fascinating, given what we're doing on the forums right now.

Author's Response: Thanks. Janet and I were attempting to keep the tone and humor of the original episode. I think we did okay. This was a fun story to write.

This. This is shaping up to be brilliance. When mucking in the timeline, there are so many ways it can go wrong, but this is definitely one of the funnier ones!

Author's Response:

Ah thanks - it was great fun to put together.
