Well I’m glad trekfan got you to restore this to the archive.

It like all your Mirror universe, strangely beautiful in it’s bleakness and hollow nature. As always you get your Mirror Mister Scotts right even as he dies of being stabbed in the back on the engineering deck by one of Spock’s men. His knowledge that he can get no comfort or grace from his end is heartbreaking but like all Scotts, even as he fades into the night he can still find some comfort from a past relationship and act.

Author's Response: It probably is way out of context here, but I'm really glad you liked it. Thank you!

Uggh...heartwrenching...

I love it because it is so very much what I saw in that last scene with Scotty. His facade was broken; there was no more silent stalker, no more constantly reading his opponents, trying to to stay three moves ahead. It was over; he had done what he had started years earlier, and it was over. If it worked it worked, if it didn't it didn't. It didn't matter, it just was. He had shown all his cards, and gone all in. And he was tired; I could see it. And not just because of the knife to the back; he had been carrying this plan, this weight, for decades and could finally shrug it off.

And again; not asking for forgiveness, because it was too much to be forgiven (a point you hit in the original story too I believe). But he didn't care; it was happening.

Wonderfully well written; you hit everything, I feel, in the original story, but this more or less sums up what I figured was going through Scotty's head at that moment. Glad you reposted it.

Author's Response: Thank you. There were very few ways that Scott could have gone out and this was the only one, in the end, that worked. Should you ever read One Minute, it'll probably make a ton more sense.

Huh.

Sic semper transit gloria Scotty.

I have read enough about end of life to know that a lot of people feel at peace, and that they see things, and people, and often those are people who have already passed. Whether that's the last gasps of brains starved for oxygen, or the beginnings of evidence of something more, I cannot say. But what Scotty is feeling, and seeing, are absolutely authentic.

God oh. The end of MU Scott. There's no grand pay off, no heroic last stand, no defiant speech, no great gesture or moment of clarity that might redeem him. Steals just comes and steals up on him. That rather makes it all too fitting for Scott MU. It really couldn't and shouldn't be any other way.

And yet, we get just at the very end, when all else is more or less done and dusted his thoughts turn to the what could have been. What could have been.

Author's Response: Aye. I'm not honestly sure what else to say about it. Thank you. <3

So this is the final moments for Mirror Scott and sadly, the moments are filled with sorrow … no, more an acceptance of it all then anything else. Scott did his deed and knew, at the end, that whatever else he was going to do after didn’t matter. But I like that, in his final moments, he was thinking about the closest he ever came to … peace. Happiness, really, with Andy.

In a nice throwback to Andy’s story and how Scott and he almost went away from it all, you leave Scott here wondering what a world like that would have been like. A poignant piece.

Author's Response: I figured you'd want to see this one. I had originally pulled it because I wasn't happy with it, but upon reread, realized that was my own battered self esteem. So, I put it back up so you could see what he thought and felt at the end.
