Kes said it already, that was eerily in lock step with something out of Ridley Scott. Just the thought of being hurled trillions of years in ANY direction is almost impossible to wrap one's head around - definitely a "worst case scenario." But it's ok, they have the ship.
Nope. You've just stacked the deck against our intrepid heroes. The ship isn't just dying, she's LONG dead, with no hope of resurrection, no hope of rescue, no food, no air, no heat...a very chilling (no pun intended) predicament. But at least they have each other.
Wait, what? Only TWO people survived? Now we've gone off the deep end of horror to just plain evil. And then one offs himself, leaving the sole survivor alone for months before she finally sets out on her own. Months alone, in a small coffin of a safezone? Ouch...
And then the ending...very creepy, very horrific and very...much of a cliffhanger type ending. I almost wish there was something else, some cause for the oil to do what it did, some thing to come out of Sigrid's death.
Incredible. Absolutely a worst nightmare situation. Loved it.

And I thought I'd cornered the market on bleak. Wow, damn depressing. So, going by Trek lore-that was the Guardian and the oily stuff was whatever the hell killed Tasha Yar? I thought she was going to get home after all...guess not.

I loved this story the first time I read it, and I still do.
Sigrid's life, and its end, are memorable and terrifying and very, very fitting. In very short order, the reader learns to care about her, and then the rug is pulled.
Horror can be a lot of gross-out, and I have never, ever liked that type of horror. The original Psycho speaks to me because of what you don't see, and there's a similar vibe here. The reader doesn't need details, as the imagination can (and should) provide them. It's the barest, sparest of outlines, but it does perfect justice to really both characters and their awful predicament.
I truly hope you will write more horror. You absolutely have a flair for it, and it is a grossly underrepresented genre, here and probably elsewhere in the collective universe of Trek fan fiction.

I have to say I love the setup here. The way you paint the desperation with the desolate feel and the broad strokes is very well done. The two characters here are trapped, stuck in a personal hell, and trying to figure out a way out. I want to know more about this universe and what’s happened here, I want to know more about it all, but the way you’ve constructed this tale is that’s it’s not about what happened to the universe previously, it’s about what’s going to happen to these poor characters.
One goes off the deep end, so distraught at the lack of life and the lack of light in this galaxy, he questions the existence of God and the very faith he has. He speaks to me. I’ve had those questions before, like some people, and I find ways to come up with answers. But he couldn’t and based on the way the galaxy was, I can’t blame him for failing to finding those answers and for giving in to his fear, his depression and ending things.
What a way to go. Just pulls off his helmet and dies right there, in the cold atmosphere of open space in a broken ship with his only remaining shipmate at his side. And only Sigrid was left. And being the only one left, she knew her fate and accepted it. But she wanted to die with some dignity and I liked the way she just decided to go to the planet and die there. What she found on that planet, I don’t know, but the way you described everything was visceral and shocking. You truly grasped the horror part of this story and you made sure your readers wouldn’t forget it.
I’d really like to see more on this piece, a further explanation of what happened, but you’ve given me something to think about. Thank you and well done.

Well, damn. This is something right out of a Ridley Scott film. You write horror quite well, and I'd love to see more of this story. The dark mood of desolation and despair was fitting for the piece. Then you tease us with Sigrid's little flame of hope, only to literally drown it in terror.
What is this place? What is that thing? And what happened next?! I want answers, man. Well done.
