I like this story Enterprise1981, Kasidy has been left without her husband and father of her unborn child for some time from the end of the DS9 TV run. I’ve got to say that was a sorry and sour note for me to end the series on and yet somehow strangely fitting.
This short story about Benjamin Sisko finally getting to return to his family when he is most needed and most wants to be there is well handled. The story flows well and the for me the emotional beat of the story is spot on. Both with Benjamin reflections and Kasidy worries about the sorrow of their marriage might mean for her child.

Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed it, FB. :)

Hmm... I'm not so sure, not so sure at all that that quite fulfils the prophecy of sorrow. Not quite. I can hope that he is indeed returned and that he can play a role as the Emissary and as father and husband. One wonders whether he can or will want to play the role of Starfleet captain now if he ahs returned. Very interesting. And you presented the family dynamics of the Sisko family in a very warm and sweet manner very much in keeping with the way things were on screen. A good job.

This should have been the proper ending to DS9. Instead of leaving us with Kira and Jake staring seemingly hopelessly out a viewport, fast forwarding to the birth of the new Sisko would have been a nice way to end the series ... on a happy and high note. Admittedly, the tone of DS9 was neither happy or high for the majority of its run but I prefer this ending.

Sisko's thoughts and Kassidy's thoughts on the "sorrow" they would experience are enlightening. I always wondered waht Sisko really thought about it as in the series he kinda seemed to brush it aside ... but missing all that time with Kassidy could easily be what the Prophets meant.

My favorite part of the story was Jake hugging his dad. Jake so often got lost in DS9's later seasons, much to the chagrin of both actors I feel, and the relationship with his father was a focal point early on in DS9 that helped establish the show as different from the rest of the Treks. I'm glad Jake got to see his father again and hug him once more ... a truly happy moment.

Well done.

Author's Response: Well, Bajoran prophecies do have a way of coming true; they need not always be interpreted as doom and gloom like the interpretation of the prophecy in "Destiny" versus how it really came true.

Very sweet; I'm glad Ben got to make it back for the birth. Definitely a miracle!

Nice work. The Sisko has returned. More's the pity there was no onscreen postscript to DS9.

Awwwwww!  This story is like a hug.  Such a nice postscript to a storyline I really didn't like on DS9.  Gives me a happy feeling.  :)

Author's Response: Thanks, kes. I certainly felt there was to Sisko's promise that he would one day be back. As the second "Shatner-verse" novel put it, maybe some journeys were never meant to end. Plus, it's a somewhat alternate take on the David R. George's recent novels, where the prophecy did already come to pass in a way.

The timing couldn't have been better. ;-)  Were the Prophets responsible?  Will you be revisiting this?

Author's Response: I would think that was implied by the opening scene and Sisko's experiences after the series finale. :)

That was great! I always imagined Sisko would come back at some pivotal moment; either family related or something major happening to Bajor. The Prophets move in mysterious indeed!

Author's Response: Thanks. Not only did this story fit challenge topic, but also makes for a prequel to "Omega", with Sisko playing a major role in that story.

Excellent work! In my own continuity, I see Sisko returning, and this is exactly how I pictured it! Well done!
