Absolutely stellar! I really liked how you went into the history of each territory and instead of explaining away the differences in appearance in canon, actually weaving them into the tapestry of this culture you're bringing to life.

Thanks! :-) Since humanity is widely varied--and we've seen similar variations in Vulcans and Bajorans, to name a few, I thought it might be interesting to allow for real variations among Cardassians. What's more...since Cardassians are more unlike humanity, physically speaking, than any of the races I mentioned above, I thought it would make sense that their ethnicities might be divided along different lines than ours.

The official Trek novels establish Macet and Dukat as cousins, and I decided to adopt that for my own continuity.
In case you're curious (and you probably weren't ;-) ), here's a bit more about Akellen Macet's parents. His mother is of the Dukat line, of course, a sibling to Dukat's father. But...to make a Harry Potter comparison (groan, I know), she was kind of the "Sirius Black" of her family. I don't think she had a lot in common with them, and didn't really want to be in the house with them all that much, which on Cardassia is rather unusual due to the tendency of families to stick together. Her travels included the region of Hăzăk, where she met Akellen's father and married him. I'm not sure how well that sat with the Dukats...I don't imagine the Macets as poor, but not members of the elite, either--especially not by the standards of Rivçal.
Akellen Macet was raised in Hăzăk, in the town of Adometar, and though he has more than his fair share of features from the Dukat side of the family, he does have many Hăzăkda ethnic characteristics and identifies as Hăzăkda rather than Rivçalda. (Some of this may well be his mother's wish, as well, not to have him identify as a Dukat, given her uneasy relation with her family.)
