What a sweet but sad moment. The love Scott has for these beautiful vessels permeates the piece in a real and believable way. He was so often reduced to comic relief on the show and in the films, but you do him justice in a way no one else could. I loved this.

That was so heartbreaking and poignant, and very true to Scotty's character. We do that so often, though--throw away things that still have meaning and importance. I also appreciate the subtle commentary on the way institutions and bureaucracies run--they can only seem to handle the "exploration" stage, the passion stage, for a generation or two, and then they become...well, institutionalized. Sometimes necessary, but a lot is sacrificed along the way. Well done.
Author's Response: Thank you very much! You hit the nail on the head.

As always Steff, you pare Scotty down to the bare bones, to the very nub of expressing anything. As always it reads like a lesson in how to write. Very good stuff here. I was pleasantly surprised that the ship in question was the Conatitution as I had jumped to conclusions reading the blurb. Reading the why of it makes it all make sense and seem so very Scotty.
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Kev. <3

A kind of depressing but thought-provoking tale; I don't know much about Scott except that he has an affinity for ships. But such behaviour in this story borders on obsession, or perhaps a fascination with the past. I also like Scott's mild gripe at how the ethos of the Federation is changing; it's one of those cool foreshadowing things...
Author's Response: He has, occasionally, been called obsessive. ;-) Thanks for the comment!

It's quite a touching and sad story, an old ship about to be cast to the breakers. Very good story
Author's Response: Thank you kindly!

Wow Steff. That actually made me tear up. I like very much the idea that Scotty would fight not only for his ship, but for others as well. A true mark of a man who has a special, mystical connection to those things others might view as just a means to get to an end.
Author's Response: Thank you so much. <3 It is, indeed.

Now I want to go visit Old Ironsides!

You write Scotty beautifully, even though he says less than ten words here. It is enough. It is more than enough.
Author's Response: If anyone would feel the grief. Thank you so much!

*sniffle*
That was an amazing, heartfelt glimpse at a subject I'm not sure many people really think closely about. The ships we write about or watched growing up weren't just settings - they were whole other characters. Losing one is devastating enough, but for a character like the Connie to be intentionally destroyed like this is heartwrenching. Absolutely amazing and well done. Now if you'll excuse me, I need a tissue. :(
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I was heartbroken when the Enterprise was lost in ST:III, so I know exactly what you mean.

Beautiful, touching story. Scotty's feelings are extremely true to character (as would, of course, be expected from Ad Astra's resident Scotty expert!). Superb.
Author's Response: Thank you very much! It always means the world coming from a fellow fan. <3
