That was a wonderful scene, and very moving--particularly since Spock is just now dealing with his mother's death in a part of "Testament" (not yet onsite) that I've been working on this morning. I'm glad your Spock has a lock of Amanda's hair, just as I have a lock that my now-departed mother, snipped when she was newly married. My Spock would dearly like to have such a lock, but he has only a memory of ashes scattered on the wind.

You've certainly captured the complexity of Spock's relationship with McCoy--I think that's my favorite pairing. I just love those two!

Great job!

What a wonderful look into Spock sock draw, and the few items that sum up his often trouble life and relationships. Each gift is a perfect match for it donator and you could see why Spock would keep them, you’ve as always done a good job of painting each item mini gift scene, so you can understand the connection and it meaning to Spock.

You somehow capture Spock's true family & friends and how they give him more than they or perhaps even Spock realizes, as his say he must find time to thank McCoy for the gift of his friendship with Kirk.

A solid good story in so few words.

Author's Response:

Thanks, FB - glad you liked it.  Spock may do his best to keep things bottled up and hidden, but it just made sense to me that he would somehow acknowledge the importance of each of these relationships, and just what the people represented by each item truly mean to him on a personal level.

*commencing more sniffling and crying*
Had to go read the first story, like you said, and then I came back to read this one. Absolutely beautiful, especially together. Thanks for sharing these.

Author's Response:

I really hadn't intended to do a sequel to AML, so thank Mack for helping me to find this piece within myself. ;-)  And you're welcome - good to know they meshed well as a duo.

As always, I love your exploration of Spock and your understanding of how deep his feelings and loyalties go. The Spock/McCoy friendship is so fascinating, and I'm glad to spend some time with it from Spock's pov. Thank you.

Author's Response:

To those around him, Spock was a master at hiding his true feelings - okay maybe not so much where Jim was concerned - but there had to be so much he kept bottled up inside.  This is but one take on that notion.  So glad it worked for you. :D

As always the depiction of the Original Series is done with excellence. Spock is how I'd picture in moments of retrospection and it's good to see him reflect upon McCoy especially. I'm reminded of JM Dillard's novelisation of Generations where the two meet at Kirk's memorial. Deep down they had respect and even love for each other. I suspect even in the 24th Century that would be the case for both men.
It's the mentions of the original series movies, Genesis, the whales and so on that tickle the chin as it were but above all Spock and his life, his mother, his childhood, his father...well, Spock.

And you doth make me blush by acknowledging me in the forward. All I wanted to do was picture Colicos :)

Author's Response:

Much thanks, Mack, and the acknowledgement was well-deserved.  I read the free write prompt and drew a blank - literally - until I read your take on it.  This story never would have come into being without it. :D

Seems my fascination with Kor (Colicos) of late is rubbing off, for what it's worth...;-)
