Wow. That was eery. You got the feeling the Prophet visions often did bring on the show, you conveyed the surreal mixed with the horror of portent. Nicely done. And perhaps this scene would have helped to have been included in the finale to make Sisko's sudden rush off to the caves more acceptable. (still dumbass of him to bring no help but hey who am I to argue with the Emissary).
But damn, the addition of the Star Trek 09 Spocks scene was shocking and hair raising because I wonder if this is something that is going to get followed up. Or is this just some ability of the non-linear Prophets? Or does the NuVerse creation pose some sort of threat connection to the dangers the Prophets speak of?! Head ploding stuff.

I'll admit to knowing virtually nothing about Sisko, but this piece flowed well. I liked the switching back and forth between the different voices in his head, explaining, nay warning him, of the ramifications of his decision(s). Nice job.
Author's Response: Glad to hear I still conveyed the gist of the story even for those not as familiar with DS9. It was quite a role strain for Sisko even after he started to embrace the role of Emissary and even after being told he couldn't be both that and a Starfleet officer. And that plays into a sacrifice that was about as heroic Spock's, while also leaving open the possibility of a return.

I think you did a fine job switching around the times, giving a feeling to the reader of not really knowing what was coming (which is, I think, a good chunk of this challenge). The reader gets a good look at the alternatives, and learns that they're not so hot.

Fantastic. Quite like the imagery presented including Sisko's thoughts and all that relating to the Prophets. What if Sisko had done things differently? Decisions typical of a captain let alone The Emissary.
And I did like that moment where at first it's Martok but no it's the Saratoga's captain.
Author's Response: Thanks, Mack. Everything came full circle for Sisko at the end of the finale. His decisions again illustrated the never-ending dilemma and the question of whether one's fate is set in stone or everyone makes their own futures. He believed in the latter when he chose to defy the Prophets and marry Kasidy. But then this rather dark and disturbing vision showed what needed to be done.
And in the finale, he would more likely recognize JG Hertzler's voice (credited as John Noah Hertzler in the pilot) as Martok's rather than that of the late captain of the Saratoga.
