A lovely story, and made more so by the fact that it makes a great deal of sense. For Jean-Luc (and for all of the other captains, really), there are few emotional luxuries. When the captain is upset or depressed - well, he or she simply can't be. And that is unrealistic for people. Jean-Luc at least has a counselor on board. For Archer and Kirk, there is no one in that role, and they are forced to deal with their own desires, guilt and regrets by themselves, and often when very, very far from home.
So - as they say in Creative Writing 101 - what happens next?
Author's Response: Yes, Jean-Luc is fortunate to have Troi on board, although I actually think he rarely ever goes to her and talks to her about things (the only really exceptions being after his Borg experience and after the Gul Madred torture)... he prefers dealing with stuff alone, which just makes him all the more interesting in my opinion. And relatable, at least for me. Hehe what happens next...? That's for an NC-17 rated ficlet to tell, I guess. ;-)

D'awwww. I love stories where Picard is able to relax and have a friend. (That's where I'm going with my story 'Adrift'...slowly. V. slowly...). Even if the friend is only a holodeck creation, it's still a friend! (As long as he doesn't go all weird, like Barclay in that S3 ep...)
Author's Response: Nah, Jean-Luc's not someone who spends too much time on the holodeck - no worries! (He's way too busy with commanding the ship, lol.) And yes, I enjoy writing the REAL Jean-Luc instead of the always-dignified Starfleet captain. Thanks for the review! :)
