Well, well, this was an interesting stumble upon. I really enjoyed reading this little debate or piece of friendly advice to Jadzia. I possibly differ from you and others, but I never got the fandom reaction to Worf and Dax getting married. I had more of an issue at the start when they went out with each other and why was she attracted to him in the first place. But later when it came to the getting married I always reckoned with the fact that Dax had been married before and that any reluctance to marry again was based in part of having had that experience before. But the notion that the character of Curzon had a heavy influence/impact on Dax is an interesting and valid one. It was a joining of 80 years and bound to have rubbed off on the slug in many ways. Fascinating really the whole thing - in ways the show should have touched on more - like having a discussion like THIS between Dax and Sisko! Very well written and delievered in the voices of the characters. The purpose of Joining being a very valid point and often overlooked by many fans. And very interesting reflections on Worf by Jadzia. All very interesting.

This is a terrific short story, and it encapsulates the Worf/Dax relationship quite well. Sisko demonstrates a great deal of wisdom, as well as a lot of knowledge about Dax. I appreciate how Sisko leads Dax to the answers, instead of just laying them out for her.
Very nicely done.

I agree with Nerys. I liked your take on the Worf/Dax relationship. But I never really cared for it on the show, for the same reason Nerys sited. She didn't seem to take their marriage seriously. But I like her tone here..maybe had the writers gone more this way I would have bought it...good job...

I never really thought twice about the Dax/Worf marriage, but this was a wonderfully insightful piece and very true to life -- that sometimes, love is much harder to recognize than the passionate opera type discussed here.
I opened the floor for past stories to be added to the challenge, since we only had one taker this week. I think you should submit this; it's dead on theme.

Good work exploring a topic I felt should've been better-addressed on the series.
I personally never liked the marriage...and in my case, because I sympathized with Worf. I didn't see Jadzia as having the requisite seriousness or singularity of passion required for marriage. (And I have to admit, I didn't care for her past...habits, either.) I found my suspicions raised by her unwillingness to commit--it signaled a need for an escape clause that I didn't care for.
And to me, it felt like a mistake for Worf to accept a mate less committed to him than he was to her.
I still find myself suspicious of Dax, in that light. But this does help a little.
Author's Response: Oh, I'm totally suspicious of Dax. She should *never* have married the guy. :-) While my *sympathies* go in a different direction I absolutely agree with you about the facts... Worf wanted and believed in grand operatic passion, and Dax wanted and believed in fun and pleasure, and these are not compatible. What I was trying to resolve was not why the marriage was a good idea -- it wasn't -- but why *Dax* thought it was a good idea. :-)
