That was a good insight into Ezri's feelings shortly after joining. Her doubts, her difficulties with defining who she really was and also her uneasiness that her previous hosts' friends didn't really know how to feel around her. It was a difficult time for everyone: her and her friends. Sisko had already gone through such a change with Curzon and Jadzia and I was always impressed that Quark simply embraced the new host and accepted Ezri for what she was.

I must admit, though, that I'm confused by the latter part of the story, as I completely didn't expect such a change of the plot and the theme. Where did Ghemor and Cardassian suddenly come from? However, it seems like this part summarises that Ezri not only came to peace with her previous hosts and integrated them into her new identity, becoming so much more than she used to be.

I'm not a fan of Ezri, but I enjoyed this story.

Author's Response: I guess I should have included a background to the latter part at the beginning. The narrative addresses how Dax hosts have a reputation for acting without thinking. And this one of those times where one cannot afford to overthink. This is when it all starts to come together for Ezri as a joined Trill trying to draw on the knowledge that other individuals possessed. With that also comes tremendous pressure to measure up to all the hosts who did plan on being joined. That is why Ezri seems to identify with Joran and Verad, as I indicate in one of my longer stories.

I'm not sure if this was just a one shot story, or a series starring Ezri, and I mean the Ezri from her early years as Dax's host, but I really like the story.

I have shied away from using Ezri because, IMO, she is hard to write for. But I think you have touched upon her character traits quite well here. I hope to see more of this Ezri...

Author's Response: Tnanks, Rob. I may get to these kinds of short stories eventually. For right now, it's sort of an addendum to Ezri Dax depicted in "The True Way" and "Omega". In the first one, she's still reconciling all the different facets of herself, and in the second one, is trying to measure up to all those previous hosts. I would imagine one of the most difficult areas for Ezri would be reacquainting herself with friends of previous hosts. Meeting Kor for the first time as Ezri Dax was an example here with identifying herself by previous host's name like she did with her mother after being joined.
