Hmm... Seems like if she can't get her head in the right place, Leone is going to have a heck of a time getting this mission pulled off. She's facing emotional turmoil from within and a sense of hesitation from her "new" crew members. It's going to be interesting to see where all this ends up!

Also, I'm super jealous that Abbie could power through dinner like that. My first pregnancy was wretched (I had HG--Hyperemesis Gravidarum--lost 13 lbs); with my second, my son rode so high up I'd be ravenously hungry only to get full after four bites lol.

Again another fine chapter, with clear flowing prose and great world-building.
The scenes with Abbie and Greg over the evening meal help to show the gang historical relationship and the fact they need to face the changing world.

Then Andrus and Leone scene, shows the Admirals pain and Andrus hidden angry about Betazed lack of defense from Starfleet in the war and the afterwards, give us an idea of what sort of grief is waiting for them.

I did enjoy Andrus views on her words and thoughts not being in unison for the majority of the conversation and that was a haunting final line.

For a moment there I figured that being back on a starship would do Krystine some good, especially when surrounded by old friends and former colleagues. But then again is any admiral who used to be a starship captain ever truly comfortable being nothing more than a passenger on a starship? Of course Krystine has some other demons haunting her as well.

And now it sounds as if Betazed is a real political hot potato. No wonder Colonel Andrus is wound up so tight, this one hits close to home and it seems to me this mission may seriously test his loyalties. Especially if Leone can't get her head on straight.

Some sweet moments here between Abbie and her husband, and some bitter nostalgic ones between Leone and the colonel. Seeing her subordinates fly away and take their own posts and grow, all while she seems stuck at HQ, you can really feel how much she's hurting. Otex is right, she needs to get her head straight to take on this mission, and maybe she needs to take some time off to grieve.

Then again, maybe getting the stars back under her feet is what the doctor ordered. Really liked the depth that was presented here. Well done.

Leone's hurting terribly, and though Colonel Otex's observations regarding her lack of focus may not be especially charitable, they are undoubtedly correct. Letting go, however, is easier said than done.

It is a joy to see so many of Farragut's old crew rising through the ranks and pursuing their own commands (of ships and departments). It's fortunate that so few of their number have fallen during and since the Dominioin War, given the horrific losses of the war and the 'peace' that's followed.

Great chapter.
