Not sure whether Jonin was betrayed or kidnapped from his rescuers. Sounds like he has fun times ahead.

I'm enjoying the reverse angle on the cardassian and klingon characters. Conflict means more if the enemy has a face.

Star Fleet on hovermounts... Shades of Mad Max.. Makes sense - wish I had thought of that.. Although I do have a few romulan detectives riding hovermounts.

Also liking the klingons shackling but not harming the civilians.

Thanks!! rbs

Author's Response:

Jonin's rescuers were authentic, and ended up paying for their good deeds with their lives at the hands of vengeful insurgents.

And yes, Pava's Special Forces connections do come in handy sometimes. :D

Thanks for your review!

There is something about Ramirez that is decidedly adorable in this chapter. I also like how this shows sides of Pava that stand in start contrast: the listener, and the warrior. His handling of M'Sharv was hilarious.

Cool! Starfleet TacNet, 24th century Facebook for Starfleet officers? A nice touching moment with Ramirez and Lar'ragos, I liked that lull after all the battle and death. Good to see Ramirez is not some obsessive arrogant prat looking for promotion and she has a heart and a conscience.

Really digged that village battle scene to. It was like something out of Indiana Jones or one of those action movies... Cool idea using hoverbikes; reminds me of the zoomers in the PS2 game Jak 2.

I like that Lar'ragos has a calm and cool and emotional savvy that is typical of an El Aurian; it is useful for any crew and ship. And I'm glad that Ramirez is not afraid to talk to him openly about her troubles. It looks like she is learning how deal with with some of the scary things that can happen under your command.

Those SWIFTs are neat! That's something I would really be interested in seeing somewhere. You should design it.

Author's Response:

Pava can be a terrific sounding board for his comrades when he's got his head on straight.  Ramirez is indeed learning some brutal truths about the burdens of command, things she's going to have to make peace with over time.

Glad you liked the SWIFT's!  I thought they were pretty cool too. :-)

Just a second review to add the rating I forgot last time!

I have to say this is as good if not better than a lot of current star trek novels. You have a real talent for choosing the right words to quickly and efficiently describe what you want to and your action scenes are great.

I loved the banter between Lar'ragos and the Klingon commander, as well as the TacNet you described.

Another strong chapter. Now I have to move on and finish!

Author's Response:

Thanks for the kind words!  Much obliged.
