Author's Response: It may be worth pointing out at this juncture that Tazla Star has been a captain before and was demoted. That assignment lasted just a few months and she didn't have a wealth of XO experience before that either. So that might help explain some of her shortcomings. Thanks for the kind words.

Tazla has a good scientific method, but not so good at handling the XO job yet. As captain, she would have demanded the same as Owens just did and would have had the same concerns and perogative. An XO has to think like a captain to anticipate the captain's needs.
This is a particularly good chapter in Star's character arc.
Thanks! rbs

Author's Response: You're right, Owens has been pretty absent in this tale since all this started. Mostly this is because I wanted to focus more on Star and Nora in this story. At least he's trying to get involved here.

Well, at least Star told the truth. Admittedly, Owens is pretty MIA and I'm beginning to wonder if his irregular sleep patterns (IE, the lack of sleep despite going to bed) is somehow connected here. Could this be some sort of dream manipulation? I wonder. I wonder.
