That was one great scene about New Haven and now it no longer feels like some miscellaneous colony. It has some intriguing characters plus you connected Daren very cleverly to his future role in the plot, so that was a smooth exercise in storytelling!

Well that was an interesting debate, and one to be expected from a colony with the strange goings on they've encountered.  Nice introduction to Daren.  I wonder what his beef is with Starfleet, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.  I was almost sniffly over the note his son left him.  What a sweet kid.  It's hard to be a parent and realize you've failed your kid, even in a small way, but kids are so forgiving.  Nice chapter.

How nice to meet Daren here after getting to know him so well in the Round Robin!  I have to say, I can understand his cynicism towards the Federation, even though mine comes from a different perspective and different reasons.

Sadly for a moment, I had thoughts of what could be, if somehow humans and Cardassians could learn to live and work in close proximity without killing each other or even resenting each other all that much.  But then I saw what planet we're on and I'm just hoping against all hope that the responsible parties won't be who I think. :-(

Awesome chapter. Daren I've gotten to know a little in the Round Robin adventure but to see him here drawn for the first time, a family man, a council man, a simple man really. A world set on being simple too and yet this spectre looms over them. It's a foreboding chapter too for the lovely happy setting you give us.

The colonists are a really good lot, too; your ability to create living people never ceases to amaze me. I like the political system, too; representative democracy, but much closer to what it should be than the current one of the United States. The power's much closer to the people. The characters are all pretty good, too; a fair mix, and Daren's friendships are rather real, as well as his relationship with his son.
