Fantastic as always. I absolutely love your depiction of the friendship between these two young guys.

Oh, man...when Corry started going through the things he was afraid he'd end up having to do in Scotland, I just about fell off my chair--I mean, I expected the mention of haggis, but a sword dance?!  Something tells me he was watching I Love Lucy a little too much...all I could hear in my head was that chant:

"A McGILLICUDDY IS HERE...A McGILLICUDDY IS HERE..." ;-)

One thing that surprised me was that Scotty's mother actually managed to behave decently.  Given the way Scotty was (prior to meeting Corry), I had expected her to be a complete and total bitch like Callie.  And I hadn't expected anybody else in the family to be decent, either...well, if you can count people who enjoy scaring Corry in the middle of the night as decent. ;-)

But Scotty's part in the prank...HILARIOUS.

(I found myself wondering, though...does everybody know Scotty's "illegitimate" except for Scotty himself, though??  That's the only explanation I can come up with as to how he got so thoroughly messed-up pre-Corry...)

Author's Response: Cait's not evil. Not at all. She's not bad; her biggest problem is that she's self-centered and very career-oriented and probably should not have had kids. And eventually she did kind of give up on emotionally badgering her eldest child about not being what she wanted him to be. Though, even in this story, you can see that she doesn't really understand him.

Scotty doesn't know; everyone else pretty much does. But it's one of those family skeletons in the proverbial closet. The facade is pretty much like any facade, and from Cor's perspective, the family looks big and boisterous and okay; they keep their non-screwed up faces on well. Growing up in it? Not so good.
