Well, that was quite a fun chapter! Qwert is quite a fun Ferengi ... I can understand why you find him fun to write. The chapter itself was filled with nice nods to previous chapters, the first one I noticed being Astrid ... oh, Astrid. She's got a very drunk and very ill Colin Groves on her hand and now the time seems to have arrived for her to take advantage of him.

It was nice to see Qwert acknowledge that the Ambassador was indeed a bitch. Because she is and it seems that everyone universally arrives at this conclusion. I wonder if anyone likes her.

Sarine continues to play her off balance but once the arrived on the station it seems something has affected him ... I'm betting those missing two days, which he hasn't yet had time to address, has something to do with his behavior aboard there.

It seems there's a power struggle going on at Onyx station and that doesn't bode well for anyone. With the amount of ships there and the general tenseness in the air, I have to come to conclusion that something is about to trigger ... could it be Astrid's plot is to cause some sort of split?

As for the station itself a very good job describing it. I come away once again impressed (and envious) of you descriptive abilities ... seeing it all through Qwerts eyes, just as unitiated as I, brings me closer to what he's seeing. The station very reads alive as it feels to the character, if that makes any sense, and I want to know more about how its made.

Yuck! Politics is supposed to be an ugly business and spitting would be bad enough - but emitting a foul stench to make a point is pretty ... well ugh! Though it is very in keeping with being alien and different. Kudos for continuing to keep it so unique and engaging. Likewise, populating it with characters like Qwert who plays his own games in how he appears and what he actually is at.

Author's Response: Yeah, I wanted to keep the Laurentii very different in their outlook and way of doings things, even down to their reaction to politics. There is a lot going on here, lots of undercurrents that are not yet entirely clear. Glad you like Qwert, he is one of my favourite characters!

A wonderful start indeed! Boys, boys oh boys. You do do politics and alien organic technology so very well. As if there aren't enough complications, cross purposes and hidden agendas among the Redemption we have the Hegemony split as well. Terrificly intricate.

I think this probably isn’t going to go down as a spectacular opening gambit in the annals of diplomacy!

I’m loving the continuing animosity and power-struggle going on between Sarine and Benjamini, and how much Qwert is enjoying the show.

At first the Laurentii appeared simply enigmatic and mercurial, but now we discover their culture is as discordant as any other humanoid society. Those divisions will obviously complicate these delicate negotiations…

Yeah, that could have gone better.
