Ah, good to see Kalara again. She's still my favorite of the bunch and proves here that she's not so easily maniupulated by the Ambassador. In fact, she seems to be coming to Sarine's defense a bit something I'm sure surprises both of them.

Speaking of Sarine, he did exactly as Turner advised him and threw the Ambassador for a loop. The way she got put down and denined was classic ... but making an enemy out of her seems like a bad idea. She's not one to take things lying down. I assume she's going to get some payback.

And that mysterious transmission that Astrid was coding into the computer has been found ... now the question is what does it all mean?

Magnificant handling of the situation. The Laurenti remain to be very alien in nature. From their behemoth whale ships, to the 360 degree strip for an eye, to their handling of ambassadors. Keeping things fresh and alien three books in with these people - one imagines and hopes for far more eyepopping moments with them.

Likewise, the technology on the bridge and in the science lab all conveys a real sense of future and modern and wow wee. Again, this is all written and conveyed very well. Helps with the setting of this story, likewise the polypolitic crew of the ship itself, a Romulan ensign here, a Ferengi oversight there, all good.

Then the various developments between and with character situations. We see that Turner's R&R time with Sarine has helped him bounce back and no doubt the Laurenti rebuff of Benjamini has also greatly improved his mood. Ho ho! That was good to see. How silly of her to think that Sarine was to be a mere figurehead in this mission. If he was asked for, and was an actual bargaining chip for this mission to happen then of course he was going to hold more sway. Benjamini does not seem to know how to best handle situations. She should have tried more to win Sarine on her side instead of the way she played the game from the very beginning. Likewise, I don't think it is wise to cross Kalara much either.

A very tense situation developing between both women. Kalara realises she has been used and this can not do her personal honour any good, add the insult of having the ship taken away from her, the Ambassador would do well to tread carefully around Kalara. Though Kalara might have cause to worry about crossing the Ambassador given the tricks and depths Benjamini will go to.

Of course, given that Zoroya has unearthed a certain transmission, Kalara's time looks to be limited before certain schemes begin to fall into place and all manner of trouble descends. Can't wait for it. Terrific again.

Great chapter here!

So Kalara is having second thoughts about the deal she made with Benjamani the She-Devil. Perhaps Bay will wind up with an ally in her, after all. Liked how Bay was all relaxed and smiley coming onto the bridge, too. A fortuitously-timed kiss can make all the difference, apparently!

The Laurentii are weird and alien and very well-described and well-handled here. The eye-strip really creeps me out for some reason. I assume they can see 360 degrees? That'd come in handy sometimes. The whale ships are a nice, otherworldly touch, too. Their unwillingness to deal with anyone but "The Sarine" is pissing Benjamani off. I'd be happy about that, except that I don't think it bodes well for Bay at all.

And Zoraya is back! I loved the whole scene in the science lab -- feeling the excitement of all the Starfleeters geeking out while Zoraya tries to handle her spy stuff on the fly without drawing attention to herself as a lowly ensign. Very cool dynamic there, and the description of the science area was great, as well.

Continued awesomeness, Joel! Can't wait to see what happens next!
