Sandhurst has gotten seduced back into the engineering game when he really needs to be on the bridge...
Very nice plot development with the klingons volunteering to help the Legate out with his planning. Great warriors - not so good at understanding soft power.
Superb little conversation between Ramirez and Faltyne, neatly mirroring the previous conversation between Rameriz and Sandhurst.
Thanks!! rbs

Oooh, interesting little mystery we have here, and also a crescendo of activity that all seems to be moving towards the Crolsa sector. If he manages to work through all of this, I suspect Sandhurst will have a tremendous amount of paperwork awaiting him.

Urlak is insane. He really underestimates the Klingons in that they will probably wipe out most of the Cardassians given half the chance. Especially if the Cardassians fight back (which a few of them are). Urlak's strategy will probably mean the death of most surviving Cardassians. Urlak presumes the Federation and Klingons will go to war over Klingon atrocities. I think the Federation is just going to sit back so as to replenish its tactical assets. It will avoid a war at all costs, especially with the Klingons, and if a few million Cardassians are killed. Well I don't see the Federation taken some serious action to prevent such an extermination...
Question; just how many surviving Cardassians are there? Millions? Tens of millions? Hundreds of millions?
Author's Response:
There are billions of surviving Cardassians on Cardassia Prime, and millions more are still eeking out a living on their shattered colony worlds throughout the Union.

A mystery is afoot...curious to know how a defense against the dimensional shift transporter was put in place. Even more curious that it was constructed by someone from the Federation. Hmmm...maybe some involvement from Section 31?
Good for Ramirez for keeping Faltyne in check! She's got some command blood in her.
Author's Response:
Well, I could tell you who's involved but then they'd have to... well, you know. ;-)
And yes, Ramirez definitely has the chops for command. Faltyne would be ill-advised to underestimate her.

What a trial of fire for a crew that (on the surface) are really not prepared for it!
Fortunate then that the new Captain has a solid senior staff. Even Ramirez seems to be pulling her weight despite her earlier reservations.
Excellent writing, wonderfully paced, and a crew I can believe in.
STILL READING!!!
Author's Response:
I'm glad you're enjoying the story. :-) Yes, it's quite true that neither the crew planet-side or those in orbit were prepared to be baptized in a trial-by-fire quite so quickly after arriving at Lakesh. Damn impolite of the insurgents, if you ask me!

Stranger and stranger... So who in the Federation would put that on there without warning them? Or is it someone else?
I like the way you reveal the Cardassian plans, now all we have to do is wait and see everything blow up in their faces... I hope! :)
Author's Response:
Who indeed? ; )
The Cardassian insurgent movement has a lot ridiing on this operation, making Gibraltar and Phoenix bigger targets than ever.
Thanks again for the terrific feedback!

Sam...you have a true talent for building an during tension in your scenes. Brilliantly done sir.
Author's Response:
Many thanks! :-)

Fascinating turn of events, with the Klingon presence and the mystery device being diciphered little by little. It does beg the question of, "Why not the Phoenix?"
Author's Response:
I believe it's because the crew of Phoenix fell behind on paying their insurance premiums... but that's just a theory. ;-p
