Another cool thing about this story: you make the ordinary interactions between the main characters really interesting, even for simple things like a dinner or a night-out. Tells me these characters are pretty lovable or gripping...

Well, well, hello John Q. Seems he has some buried/repressed feelings, and their going to a party? I see no hazards at all there ;)

Author's Response:

No.  Nothing like that could possibly happen.  And I'm not being at all sarcastic.  ;-)

Ouch! Poor John almost got slapped in the face for bringing up Icheb. A bad move really but I guess his guilt over his own feeelings towards Maren keeps steering him back in that direction. A bad case of deflection. Very raw and testy subject altogether - this could get combustive.

Great dinner scene. Lots of warmth and pleasantness in a friendly atmosphere. Just what the doctor ordered. A slight feeling of euphoria? Hmmmm ... That Fire Water is quite potent. I wonder how potent. At least Adele gets to make some 'friends'.

Lots of other little tidbits thrown in. Bashir revealling a little of his concern about Icheb. The talk about our amorous doctor - Oh! And Nix's buoy being located and all ebing well. Yeah right. Nicely slipped in there. Damn you know how to spin out a tale.

Author's Response:

Wow, you really nailed John's state of mind.  He's all about the guilt and deflection right now.  When he keeps bringing up their relationship, it's a distraction from his own feelings, a redirection of sorts, a reminder of the way things are 'supposed' to be.  If he isn't allowed to bring it up, I wonder what might come out of his mouth instead.

Glad you enjoyed the dinner scene intro ... and yes, the drink is pretty potent.  Adele knows how to handle herself, but we'll see how the younger crowd does with their little party ...

Yeah, Iden's buoy magically reappeared!  I wonder how that happened.  Oh, wait, we know what happened ... too bad she doesn't have a clue.

Thanks so much for the review!

It really was nice to see everyone relaxing and I thought you handled the Adrien/Claire family really well - very realistic and a nice change onboard ship.

John definitely better be careful - if he has waited this long before telling Maren how he feels, I would suggest that he wait a little longer!

Oh and unrequited feelings mixing with alcohol? That can't be good!

Continued awesomeness, K7

It's nice to see everyone getting to relax for once. Adele and Julian at an interesting dinner party as their host attempts to accidentally poison them, and John and Maren heading out for a night on the... well, ship, I suppose.

John's feelings for Maren are coming to the fore, and he'd better be careful or he could find himself becoming an awkward third party in a particularly troubled love triangle.

I'm glad to see they're getting away from Tyndorian space, though the possible Borg-related mysteries that species was likely hiding haven't been answered. But, sometimes such answers aren't forthcoming, at least not until the Borg data on the iso-chip is decoded.

A nice break from the adventures of late as the crew gets a much needed opportunity to get to know one-another in a non-duty related capacity.

I love Claire. *grins* I have a new favorite side character. I'm always getting picked on for how adventurous I am with food. The temptation to do things like that with a replicator would be very strong. Really nice dynamic among the four at dinner. It's good to see them off duty from time to time.

Euphoria? Oh, lordy, is this the Tyndoran equivalent of absinthe? Instead of the green fairy, they have the fire fairy. I had to laugh.

John, John, John, that's no way to go through life, son, and now isn't the time to be thinking such thoughts. It can't end well!

Great chapter. Can't wait to see the party!

Author's Response:

Claire is fun.  And it is nice to see them off duty.  We'll get a little more of that in the next chapter.

Absinthe is a pretty good comparison, yes.  They better take it easy ... unfortunately, Maren is heading into this with the wrong attitude.  Sigh.

Yeah, poor John.  Of all the times for his long-term latent crush to rear its ugly head ... now is probably not the best.

The party (and the rest of the "adult's table" dinner party, too) is coming up.  :)  Thanks for reviewing!
