Ah, the first meeting between the two star-crossed lovers. Little did I -- or anyone for that matter -- know how much these two would influence the course of this mission.
Seeing Maren's thoughts here, among her first days aboard the ship, is perfect. The commentary about the way the ship was designed (especially this bio-neural gel packs, messy and wasteful as they are) was spot on. The engineers all in my head were all with her.

Ohhhhh, and there comes the heartbreak and bitterness. Even though Maren had to know, I imagine it probably would be a shock. Poor Adele has no idea what's going on there under her nose.
I don't know how I feel about the Tesseract as a ship, but then again, I tend to have a very fixed view on starships. I can't imagine someone that young having that level of responsibility, for either Icheb or Maren, but it should be fascinating to see how that works out.

A Starfleet-like Borg cube, a seven year mission to the Delta Quadrant, and Icheb/Maren. Inspired stuff. The paragraph about the Tesseract being sort of like a Borg cube, Starfleet style, really astounded me and totally sucked me into this story.
