Summary:

Okay. I've tried a million times to come up with a simple (or even a not so simple) way to explain this storyline and I've failed every time. I guess because there's just no way to stick it in any particular genre, or sum it up in any simple terms.

So, this time I'll just go with stating the facts: The Arc of the Wolf is a series of stories, some short, some much longer, some not even written yet, some half-written and sitting on my hard drive, some even contributed by other authors, that spans well over a century in the lifetime of Montgomery Scott. Long before TOS, and long after it.

I can guarantee that 1.) Nothing in it contradicts canon; in fact, part of the reason I've even written it is because I wanted to explain a whole lot of things I saw in canon that didn't make sense without further context. 2.) It's a pretty family friendly series -- some occasional cussing, more than you'd see on TV, but nothing gratuitous. The highest rated story is PG-13. 3.) It's written all out of order, and there are still a number of stories missing out of it, but the earlier pieces are pretty cohesive.

Not much more to be said about it, really. It takes a very close-to-the-ground, human-eye view of things. It's got a bit of everything; from joy to tragedy, from deep and intense to total comedy. All of it, though, is character driven. (And yes, it even has some art to go with it; ask if you're curious enough.)

Feedback is adored, but not required -- I'll be happy if you read it and it makes you think.

Summary:

Following Distant Horizons, On the Nature of Wind is a full-length novel that dives into what Scotty did while in Engineering School. Though it isn't the first story chronologically in the Arc of the Wolf, it was the first one to be written. It also introduces an OC who practically has his own fanclub. This novel can be read alone without reading the rest of the Arc of the Wolf, though, like most things, it's best in context. There are also other stories that go with it and will be included in this series.

This story covers a lot of ground. It has humor, drama, friendship, high seas piracy -- no, I'm not kidding -- and plenty of action. There's a little something for everyone.

But at its heart, it's about the questions we ask the universe, even when the universe never answers us, and how we have to often seek those answers ourselves.

Even if it means we only find that we're little more than courage, struggling for oxygen.

Summary: This section picks up one year after On the Nature of Wind. In order to really understand this, you should have probably read that. Especially since the first story spoils the ending of that tale.

It's also the last 'complete' part of the broad story arc that I have done so far. I may or may not post the rest.

True Bearings is probably one of my favorite parts, if only because it was written rather easily. It's still close to the ground, and most of it is strongly character-based. It has some really light, warm parts in it; likewise, it does have its occasional gritty moments. Mostly, it's about the process of discovering what it's like to be a part of a family.
